The computer-assisted procedure, which is intended as an adjunct to standard four-quadrant biopsies for screening, diagnosis, or surveillance of cancerous or precancerous esophageal lesions, may be considered medically necessary for the surveillance of both Barrett\u2019s Esophagus and chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cUsing artificial intelligence to reliably detect precancerous cells is truly remarkable science. In large multicenter clinical studies, WATS<sup>3D<\/sup> has been found to significantly increase the detection rate of BE and esophageal dysplasia, both treatable precursors to esophageal cancer, one of the fastest growing and most fatal cancers in the United States.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWATS<sup>3D<\/sup> testing meets the five pillars of evidence-based medicine typically required by insurance payors: analytic validity, clinical validity, clinical utility, cost-effectiveness, and recommendations by major medical societies. The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the American Foregut Society (AFS) each currently include WATS<sup>3D<\/sup> testing in their recommendations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSince 2019, the ASGE has included WATS<sup>3D<\/sup> in its Standards of Practice Committee\u2019s guideline for the screening and surveillance of BE.
