Most importantly, results showed that suicidal ideation, self-harm and anxiety are very prominent in post-pandemic children today.\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mms.businesswire.com\/media\/20220526005674\/en\/1468742\/5\/Logo_2022.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mms.businesswire.com\/media\/20220526005674\/en\/1468742\/21\/Logo_2022.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nThe survey of 1,028 parents of children under age 18 conducted in April 2022 is the first survey that takes a comprehensive look at how the pandemic continues to affect children\u2019s mental health.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThis is the most disturbing existential change in childhood mental health that I\u2019ve witnessed in more than 15 years practicing pediatric behavioral care,\u201d said Dr. Jacquelyn Flood, licensed child psychologist and Clinical Director of Psychology, Elemy. \u201cWe have a clear childhood mental health crisis happening in the U.S. right now. Whether or not the pandemic has raised parent awareness of issues like suicidal thoughts and social anxiety, it\u2019s clear that we need to immediately take action to address this societal problem and help our children.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<b>Childhood Mental Health Survey results:<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\n<b>Suicide and self-harm is prevelant<\/b>. <b>26%<\/b> of parents report their children admitted to being suicidal while <b>20% <\/b>report that their children engage in self-harm\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Kids are losing their friendships, too. 42%<\/b> of parents report their children have lost friendships during the pandemic.\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Anxiety is tied to social gatherings. 47% <\/b>of parents report an increase in their child\u2019s anxiety as a result of interacting in large social gatherings.\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Sleep and eating disorders have more than doubled. 20%<\/b> of children have experienced sleep disorders and <b>17%<\/b> have developed eating disorders compared to <b>9.3%<\/b> and <b>7% <\/b>respectively pre-pandemic.\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>The kids are not OK. 42% <\/b>of surveyed parents report their children seem unhappier than they were before the COVID-19 pandemic.\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>A family\u2019s financial situation plays a part<\/b>. Parents with an annual income of less than $50,000 per year were <b>30%<\/b> more likely to report having a child who admitted to feeling suicidal compared to parents who reported incomes more than $50,000.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nAccording to the CDC, from March 2020 to October 2020, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.businesswire.com\/ct\/CT?id=smartlink&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov%2Fmmwr%2Fvolumes%2F69%2Fwr%2Fmm6945a3.htm&amp;esheet=52732198&amp;newsitemid=20220526005674&amp;lan=en-US&amp;anchor=mental+health-related+emergency+department+visits+increased+24%25+for+children+ages+5+to+11+and+31%25+for+those+ages+12+to+17&amp;index=3&amp;md5=0dcc72d0b1ef5e74f554e1133c539a28\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" shape=\"rect\">mental health-related emergency department visits increased 24% for children ages 5 to 11 and 31% for those ages 12 to 17 <\/a>compared with 2019 emergency department visits.
