\nSen. Raphael Warnock and Rep. Buddy Carter Lead Georgia Delegation Letter Urging Biden Administration to Place New Agency in Georgia<\/b>\n<\/p>\n

ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#Healthcare<\/a>–A coalition of Georgia business, academic, and nonprofit leaders have partnered to promote Georgia as the home for the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). The ARPA-H Georgia Coalition is coordinating advocacy efforts in Georgia and Washington, D.C. to bring ARPA-H headquarters to Georgia. ARPA-H received $1 billion in funding from Congress through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).\n<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

\nThe ARPA-H Georgia Coalition was launched in May 2022 and is jointly led by the Metro Atlanta Chamber and the Center for Global Health Innovation and supported by the law firm of Baker Donelson. Additional members include a growing list of public and private universities, businesses, nonprofits, and trade associations dedicated to making the case to the Biden Administration that Georgia should be the home of the ARPA-H headquarters.\n<\/p>\n

\n\u201cGeorgia\u2019s combination of health science and technology leadership along with a history of combating global disease provides Georgia with the unique infrastructure to host ARPA-H and address the nation\u2019s health challenges of today and tomorrow,\u201d said Dr. Russell Medford, the ARPA-H Georgia Coalition Chairman and CEO of Covanos. \u201cLocating ARPA-H in our state would best position this distinctive agency to innovate and realize its mandate to address health equity, engage global partners, and break new ground.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\nThis week, members of Georgia\u2019s Congressional delegation, led by Sen. Raphael Warnock and Rep. Buddy Carter, signed a letter of support highlighting Georgia\u2019s distinct advantages and assets.\n<\/p>\n

\n\u201cGeorgia\u2019s top ranked universities, medical schools, schools of engineering and research institutions are at the forefront of biomedical and health research to diagnose and cure major diseases,\u201d the letter states. \u201cBoasting a highly diverse talent pool and robust pipeline that include its Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Georgia seeks to solve challenges often overlooked.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\nThe Georgia delegation letter highlights for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra Georgia\u2019s \u201cworld-class talent, dynamic commercial technology sector, and rich public health research legacy.\u201d The letter also highlights that Georgia\u2019s \u201chigher education and research institutions, together with the CDC and NGOs\u2026 have played, and continue to play, a pivotal role in combating polio, smallpox, monkeypox, Ebola, multiple pandemics, and other major diseases\u201d and urged him to \u201cconsider the exceptional assets Georgia offers.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\nAbout the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H)<\/b>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe vision of Dr. Adam Russell, the Acting Deputy Director for ARPA-H, is for ARPA-H is to “empower every American to realize their health potential.”\n<\/p>\n

\nPublic Law 117-103 was enacted on March 15, 2022, authorizing the establishment of ARPA-H within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and appropriated $1 billion to create the agency. Congress is currently considering authorizing additional funding.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe ARPA-H headquarters will house bio-medical research program managers dedicated to evaluating and funding the prevention, treatment, and cure of diseases including cancer, infectious diseases, Alzheimer\u2019s disease as well as many common conditions that impact Americans every day.\n<\/p>\n

\nAccording to the HHS website, \u201cARPA-H will support transformative high-risk, high-reward research to drive biomedical and health breakthroughs \u2013 ranging from molecular to societal \u2013 that would provide transformative solutions for all patients.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
