The data were presented today during the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.businesswire.com\/ct\/CT?id=smartlink&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Ftct2022.crfconnect.com%2F&amp;esheet=52915374&amp;newsitemid=20220917005003&amp;lan=en-US&amp;anchor=2022+Transcatheter+Cardiovascular+Therapeutics+%28TCT%29+conference&amp;index=2&amp;md5=5b2bf7a14d000c031a40954d07a4e302\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" shape=\"rect\">2022 Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference<\/a> in Boston by Navin K. Kapur, MD, executive director of the Cardiovascular Center for Research and Innovation (CVCRI) at Tufts Medical Center and the principal investigator for the STEMI DTU pivotal randomized controlled trial.\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mms.businesswire.com\/media\/20220917005003\/en\/1575032\/5\/STEMI_DTU_Logo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mms.businesswire.com\/media\/20220917005003\/en\/1575032\/21\/STEMI_DTU_Logo.jpg\"><\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/mms.businesswire.com\/media\/20220917005003\/en\/722993\/5\/AbioLogo_TAGLINE_COLOR.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mms.businesswire.com\/media\/20220917005003\/en\/722993\/21\/AbioLogo_TAGLINE_COLOR.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nThe new analysis compared infarct size in 32 patients from the STEMI DTU pilot trial who met all inclusion and exclusion criteria. All patients experienced an anterior STEMI and completed one of two treatment protocols \u2013 LV unloading with Impella CP followed by immediate PCI (n=15) or LV unloading with Impella CP for 30 minutes prior to delayed PCI (n=17). Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging performed three-to-five days after PCI was used to determine infarct size (IS) normalized to the area at risk (AAR). Results showed that the infarct size normalized to the area at risk was significantly lower in the delayed PCI group compared to the immediate PCI group (IS\/AAR: 47<span>\u00b1<\/span>16 vs. 60<span>\u00b1<\/span>16, p=0.02), which translates to a 22% relative and 13% absolute reduction in IS\/AAR.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201c<!-- no quote -->Results from this analysis are early, but promising, indicating that in STEMI patients, unloading the left ventricle with Impella CP for 30 minutes and delaying PCI could potentially help improve patient outcomes by reducing damage to the heart muscle and helping prevent heart failure,\u201d said Dr. Kapur.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nMyocardial damage can lead to heart failure. Every 5% increase in infarct size is associated with a 20% increase in relative hazard for all-cause mortality or hospitalization for heart failure within one year after a primary PCI<sup> <\/sup>(<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.businesswire.com\/ct\/CT?id=smartlink&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.jacc.org%2Fdoi%2Fabs%2F10.1016%2Fj.jacc.2016.01.069&amp;esheet=52915374&amp;newsitemid=20220917005003&amp;lan=en-US&amp;anchor=JACC%2C+2016&amp;index=3&amp;md5=74e6a90da144020dd1f7ffd8ec6b2996\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" shape=\"rect\">JACC, 2016<\/a>).
