\nNational Biotechnology Company Selects Indianapolis for New Location<\/b>\n<\/p>\n

INDIANAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–People in Indianapolis can soon help save lives by donating their blood plasma at a new donation center opening November 8, 2022. The new location is operated by ImmunoTek Plasma which has centers in 12 states and another Indiana location in Jeffersonville. Indianapolis is the 72nd<\/sup> center in the U.S. wholly designed, built, and operated by the organization, which is the largest independent blood plasma donation center operator in the world.\n<\/p>\n

\nThere is a worldwide demand for blood plasma, and the new Indianapolis center will help meet that need. The company has accepted more than six million donations from blood plasma donors since it launched in 2013. Those donations provide much-needed plasma used to make plasma protein therapies and medicines for healthcare patients around the globe. These plasma-derived medicines treat immune disorders, rare diseases, burn victims, cancer patients, and a variety of other illnesses. To treat just one patient annually requires between 130 \u2013 1,200 plasma donations from healthy donors.\n<\/p>\n

\nPlasma is the golden liquid part of blood and has such a unique biologic make-up, that it cannot be made synthetically. The U.S. provides 2\/3 of the plasma used worldwide and is one of the few countries that allow healthcare companies to financially compensate donors for their time donating plasma, adding to the financial benefit to the local community.\n<\/p>\n

\n\u201cHealthcare-oriented jobs are created when donation center opens, as well as construction jobs when the center itself is built. Our donors receive compensation for the time they spend donating, which often provides stimulus to local businesses,\u201d said Blair McKinney, Chief Operations Officer of ImmunoTek. \u201cWe anticipate the fully operational center will generate a $5 million economic benefit to Indianapolis. But the priceless benefit is the gift of life for those depending on plasma-based medicines for their quality of life.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\nTo be eligible to donate plasma, a medical screening is conducted by in-house medical professionals, along with a medical history and physical exam. Donating plasma is much like a blood donation. Plasma is removed from the blood through a safe, sterile, self-contained automated process called plasmapheresis. The remaining red blood cells are returned to the donor. Plasma can be donated up to twice a week.\n<\/p>\n
