NEW YORK & SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Parkinson\u2019s Foundation<\/a>, one of the world\u2019s leading organizations making life better for people with Parkinson\u2019s disease (PD) and Tag.bio<\/a>, the leader in data mesh (a self-service, no-code\/low-code, decentralized, domain-driven software platform), today announced a partnership that will help accelerate research into the causes and treatment of PD.\n<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\u201cWe are thrilled to partner with the Parkinson\u2019s Foundation, a global leader in improving life for those living with Parkinson\u2019s disease,\u201d said Tom Covington, CEO of Tag.bio. \u201cWith this partnership, for the first time, researchers across organizations will be able to investigate harmonized, clinical and genomics data products using the most advanced data mesh framework, to help advance research into the causes and treatment of Parkinson\u2019s disease.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\nThe partnership with Parkinson\u2019s Foundation will enable researchers across organizations to securely analyze and share anonymized data combining clinical and genomics data sets with millions of variants and thousands of clinical parameters. Data Products interrogated via Apps and developer environments within the platform provide detailed insights on disease progression and map clinically relevant PD-related genes. The goal is to improve care for PD by accelerating and supporting research to advance improved treatments and personalized medicine.\n<\/p>\n

\n\u201cBy providing the research community with tools and a library of data, we hope to make strides in advancing Parkinson\u2019s research, spark discoveries in treatment and improve the overall care of people living with the disease,\u201d said Parkinson\u2019s Foundation Chief Scientific Officer James Beck, PhD.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe Parkinson\u2019s Foundation will support the research community by linking multiple deidentified datasets from PD GENEration: Mapping the Future of Parkinson\u2019s Disease<\/a>, a national initiative that provides genetic testing and counseling for seven PD-related genes to individuals with a confirmed PD diagnosis at no cost. The study aims to help people with PD and their physicians identify whether they qualify for enrollment in certain clinical trials based on their results. The newly established partnership will support the study\u2019s goal of improving PD care by accelerating and supporting research to advance improved treatments and personalized medicine.\n<\/p>\n

\nParkinson\u2019s disease is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer\u2019s and is the 14th-leading cause of death in the U.S. It is estimated that one million Americans and 10 million individuals worldwide are affected by this disease. It is associated with a progressive loss of motor control (e.g., shaking or tremor at rest and lack of facial expression), as well as non-motor symptoms (e.g., depression and anxiety). There is no cure for PD and 60,000 new cases are diagnosed each year in the U.S. alone.\n<\/p>\n
