Based on responses from 152 U.S.-based executives across a range of industries, including high-tech, software, biomed, manufacturing, aerospace, and defense, the findings illuminate opportunities for enterprises to enhance research and development via innovation strategy.\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mms.businesswire.com\/media\/20230227005119\/en\/1722722\/5\/TechLink_logo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mms.businesswire.com\/media\/20230227005119\/en\/1722722\/21\/TechLink_logo.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nWith an uncertain market and access to capital shrinking, companies must find ways to launch and improve products with tighter budgets and timelines. TechLink\u2019s study shows an opportunity for U.S. companies to leverage innovation best practices that could open market opportunities and positively impact their bottom lines.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThis study offers insights into innovation opportunities and challenges familiar to TechLink,\u201d says Austin Leach, TechLink\u2019s Associate Director. \u201cWe\u2019ve worked with companies of all sizes to inject new ideas and capabilities into their innovation and R&amp;D efforts \u2014 accomplished through brokering nearly 2,000 technology transfer agreements between businesses and Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs labs. These agreements have resulted in billions of dollars in sales and expansion of the U.S. industrial base. And the best part: We do this at no cost.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\nKey findings from the TechLink R&amp;D Innovation Performance Study include:\n<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\n<b>Most companies lack a holistic innovation strategy \u2014 if they have one at all \u2014 yet are committing significant resources and personnel to R&amp;D.<\/b>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"bwmarginl1\">\nAmong enterprise leaders, fewer than one-quarter (24%) reported having an innovation strategy that addresses all corporate departments. Nevertheless, 41% of companies dedicate more than 10% of their annual revenue to R&amp;D, while nearly one-quarter (22%) have dedicated R&amp;D employees comprising more than 10% of their full-time headcounts.\n<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\n<b>Half of companies see customers as key allies in innovation \u2014 but there\u2019s untapped opportunity in universities and government labs.<\/b>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"bwmarginl1\">\nMost companies view customers as key partners in product development, with almost half of companies (48%) characterizing their customers as frequent collaborators. By contrast, only 22% and 20% of companies frequently turn to universities and government labs, respectively, to bring new products to fruition.\n<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\n<b>Enterprises struggle to efficiently turn ideas into action \u2014 while overlooking the value of existing technologies<\/b>.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"bwmarginl1\">\nMost companies (84%) say they turn half or less of new product or service ideas into budgeted projects.
