BEND, Ore.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Inovia Vein Specialty Centers, a leading provider of vein disease treatments and therapies in the Pacific Northwest, announces its successful outreach and awareness efforts during DVT Awareness Month<\/a> in March 2023.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

\nThroughout the month of March, the clinic dedicated its resources to raising awareness about the dangers of vein disease, as well as providing support and educational resources to raise awareness about the dangers of DVT in our communities. Inovia Vein carried out a digital and direct outreach campaign to raise awareness not only by members of the community, but also providers that serve patients in Oregon and Southwest Washington. In addition, they also developed educational videos both in English and Spanish about DVT awareness and how to fit, put on and best utilize compression hose. Working with stocking suppliers, they were able to take donated compression hose and begin distribute them to clinics in traditionally underserved areas for distribution.<\/p>\n

\n“DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) is a condition that occurs when a blood clot forms in one of the deep veins in the body, usually in the legs,\u201d said Lauren Wikholm, a surgeon at Inovia Vein specializing in the care of patients with common vein disorders. “Left untreated, DVT can lead to serious complications, including pulmonary embolism, which can be fatal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n“It is estimated that up to 900,000 people in the United States are affected by DVT each year, making it a significant public health concern,\u201d said Dr. Randolph Todd Jones, who also specializes in vein care at Inovia Vein. \u201cThe more patients and providers are aware of the risks and how to recognize the signs of a potential blood clot, the more likely they are to seek treatment when indicated and when the process is more likely to be optimally treated.”<\/p>\n

\n“As part of our outreach efforts, our team worked closely with numerous local clinics in Oregon as well as community organizations to provide education and support to those at risk for vein disease,\u201d said Edwin Gutierez, a medical assistant and community outreach coordinator. \u201cThese efforts definitely make a difference in our communities,\u201d said Alexa Riel, PA, who works at the Inovia Vein Specialty Clinics in Bend, Oregon. \u201cIn the last several years I have seen our community grow in their understanding of how to recognize and treat DVT which can help outcomes for some patients.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\u201cOne of the big challenges for patients in our most economically challenged communities is the lack of access to simple things like graded compression hose,\u201d said Rachel Drgastin, a medical assistant and clinic educator at Inovia Vein. \u201cWe were able to acquire nearly $75,000 in donated graded compression hose to distribute to clinics that serve this population along with a series of educational and instructional videos about how to size, fit and put on compression hose. This included working with Volunteers in Medicine to help distribute to those in need.\u201d<\/p>\n
