In the past year alone, one-quarter (<b>25%<\/b>) say financial factors have negatively affected their relationships or dating lives.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe survey reveals that financial pressure is not only straining partnerships but also impacting Canadians\u2019 emotional well-being and trust within relationships.<\/p>\n<p>\n<b>EMOTIONAL AND PERSONAL IMPACTS<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\nMore than half (<b>52%<\/b>) of Canadians in a relationship say they\u2019ve experienced personal effects after arguing about money with their partner, up from <b>47%<\/b> last year. Among the most common impacts:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\n<b>34%<\/b> report increased anxiety and\/or depression<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>25%<\/b> say they experience poor sleep after financial disagreements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nFinancial stress is also influencing honesty between partners. Among Canadians in relationships:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\n<b>11%<\/b> admit they have lied to their partner about their financial situation to avoid conflict, up from <b>8%<\/b> last year<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>13%<\/b> say they have considered lying about their financial situation, up from 10% last year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<b>FINANCIAL DISAGREEMENTS AND TRANSPARENCY<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\nWhile most couples still strive for openness, disagreements around everyday money decisions remain common.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\nThe most frequent causes of financial disagreements are day-to-day spending (<b>28%<\/b>) and lack of savings (<b>24%<\/b>)<\/li>\n<li>\nWhile<b> 39%<\/b> of Canadians in relationships say they have no financial disagreements with their partner, this is down from <b>45%<\/b> in 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nDespite rising tension, financial transparency levels have remained steady year-over-year:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\n<b>50%<\/b> say they are very open and share everything, including a joint bank account<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>40%<\/b> keep separate accounts but share important financial information<\/li>\n<li>\nOnly <b>2%<\/b> say they do not discuss finances with their partner at all<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\u201cThe rise in Canadians questioning their relationships because of money is a serious red flag,\u201d says <b>Stacy Yanchuk Oleksy, CEO of Money Mentors. <\/b>\u201cFinancial stress is no longer just about dollars and debt.
